What's the route?

We are sailing the ‘Atlantic Circuit ‘ which is roughly 14,000 nautical miles over 14 months.  People have been sailing the Atlantic circuit since the time of Columbus and there’s a very good reason.  It’s easier to sail with the wind rather than against it!  In the 1700’s it could take Franklin for example anything from 6 weeks to 3 months to sail across, we hope to do it in just over 2 weeks.

From Northern Europe the winds generally blow south from Ireland towards the Canary Islands then from there towards the west Indian islands of the Caribbean and then they turn NE to get you back across the Atlantic towards northern Europe.  It is for this reason that we choose the route below.  We depart from Ireland and head towards France with stops in the Scilly Islands and Falmouth then south to Spain, Portugal, Morocco, out to Madeira then south to the Canaries and the Cape Verdes before crossing the Atlantic to French Guiana and Suriname.  Then North up the Caribbean Islands as far as the Dominican Republic, from here we may go to New York then Azores or we may go Bermuda Azores and then back into Galway Bay.  Scroll down for a rough itinerary.

Where are we now?

Click Marine traffic and search for Danu of Galway.

Note - If our AIS (Automatic Identification System) transponder is not on (i.e we are not sailing then you will not see our position and you will have to come back and try again.  Or WhatsApp Vera on 00353 87 6815189
